SICILY. Messana. 412-408 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.50 g, 1 h). Charioteer, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left, driving biga of mules to left; in exergue, two dolphins confronted. Rev. ΜΕΣΣΑΝΙΟΝ Hare springing left; above, dove flying left; below, grain ear. Caltabiano 620.15 (this coin, D220/R246). Rizzo pl. XXVII, 5 (same dies). SNG Fitzwilliam 1079 (same dies). A lovely and lightly toned piece of fine style. Very fine.
